PNG was recommended through my father in law who had just had a electric car charger installed at his hotel
Q: Why did you decide to get solar panels?
We had been looking into getting solar panels for a number of years and had researched the system type we wanted with battery storage. We are high electricity users and have tried to make our home more energy efficient and cheaper to run, after other improvements were made to our home it was time to invest in solar panels, luckily for us we had already agreed to the install before the electricity prices rocketed last year. It was the best decision we made.
Q: Are you pleased you bought solar panels?
Very much so, the installation was brilliant and we could see the benefits straight away
Q: What was the experience like buying the panels?
It was easy, Paul was excellent at explaining everything and gave us various options with breakdowns of costs and expected solar generation
Q: Do your solar panels generate enough power to cover all your electricity needs? How often do you rely on the grid for electricity?
Pretty much yes, we use very little grid energy at all, only if someone has a shower before sunrise or if we are running a number of appliances, oven, hob, washing machine together. But when the sun is out and the batteries are charging we are practically grid free. We are considering adding another battery to our system which we think will cover the addition bit we need over night / early hours
Q: Are you receiving money via the Smart Export Guarantee?
We are signed up to the scheme , but are still waiting for payment from Scottish Power, they are a bit slow at responding to emails
Q: How has your opinion of solar panels changed over time? Please can you describe your experience maintaining your solar panels?
We think they are fantastic, at the moment they are maintence free, we did install bird wire around the edges to stop birds nesting underneath them as we do have a lot of birds around the house.
Q: Do you feel likely to buy other types of renewable technology?
Yes we are looking into other options, we have a air source heat pump to heat a pool which was previously gas. We are also going to install the water heating device on our hot water tank, that one of your engineers told us about, which is linked into the solar panel system and we are also considering another battery to add to the system.
Q: Would you recommend solar panels to other homeowners in the UK? Why / why not?
Yes defiantly, we have already reccomended them to a number of friends who have since had systems installed themselves. It is an investment, but the system looks after its self and having an app on my phone I can see how much energy we are generating and am learning to use the free energy better, for example looking at the app before I put the washing on etc.
The app also shows me how much money we have saved so far using the system, which is over £1100 over 10 months so it really is paying for its self and the electricity bill for the house is about £80 a month instead of £360
Q: Is there anything you wish you’d known before you bought solar panels?
No, we just wish we had done it sooner.
