Q: Why did you decide to get solar panels?
Rising cost of electricity and impact on the environment.
Q: Are you pleased you bought solar panels?
Yes very pleased, I think the fuel crisis will never go back to how it was before and
we will be looking at increasing costs for several years to come.
Q: What was the experience like buying the panels?
Very easy with PNG Electrical, as they did all the hard work and gave us
recommendations as to what was needed for our home.
Q: Do your solar panels generate enough power to cover all your electricity needs? How often do you rely on the grid for electricity?
No we still draw some power from the grid over the autumn and winter months
Q: Are you receiving money via the Smart Export Guarantee?
No Octopus have been absolutely awful at getting us a smart meter and then
paying us for our exported power.
Q: How has your opinion of solar panels changed over time? Please can you describe your experience maintaining your solar panels?
We have not had them long enough to require any maintenance, there is sometimes
difficultly in understanding why they are not reading, I have turned off the unit and
restarted it and these seems to sort the problem.
Q: Do you feel likely to buy other types of renewable technology?
We are considering getting an electric car but finances do not allow it at this time.
Q: Would you recommend solar panels to other homeowners in the UK? Why / why not?
Yes I would, if you can afford them I think they are a great idea.
Q: Is there anything you wish you’d known before you bought solar panels?
I would recommend that people get a smart meter installed before they get the panels installed and it was very frustrating knowing how much we were giving to the grid that we never received any payment for.
